PHMSA Publishing Gas Pipeline Regulatory Reform Rule

PHMSA has sent a Final Rule titled “Gas Pipeline Regulatory Reform” to the Federal Register to be published next week. This rule includes revisions to 49 CFR 191 and 192.

The “Gas Pipeline Regulatory Reform” Rule touches on a variety of areas including: increasing incident reporting thresholds in 49 CFR 191, updating references to incorporated documents, updating design and construction requirements for components fabricated by welding and plastic pipe, allowing for remote monitoring of rectifiers, clarifying atmospheric corrosion monitoring intervals and pressure test requirements, updating corrosion records retention timeframes, and updating distribution integrity management program requirements.

The Final Rule has been transmitted to the Federal Register and is scheduled to be published January 11, 2021. Follow the link to access the unpublished version with new rule language beginning on page 95.
